Matthew 6:34New International Version (NIV)
Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.
“Stay present in the present, because God is present in the present.”
-Jennifer Rothschild, Missing Pieces Real Hope When Life Does Not Make Sense-
When we’re faced with something unexpected such as a shocking diagnosis, perhaps even a sudden loss of a friend or loved one we can feel very much alone. It is not uncommon even for us to feel maybe as though God has abandoned us. This has been a personal spiritual battle for me. I am not only, at the present, in the process of grieving the loss of a family member. I also find myself once again in a position with professionals in both government as well as medical fields that have left me asking questions of why.
In my personal struggles to understand the why’s, I sometimes ask; God, are you there? Because sometimes, the burdens we bear seem so heavy and sometimes, despite His ever abiding love, we cannot help but feel that we have been left to our own devices. These devices, more often than not, lead us down a very dark or despairing road. For when we do not get our desired results or life takes an unanticipated turn, we tend to wonder…is there any light? Is there any hope? God, do you care, is it fair, and God…are you even there?
- Why God, if you are there, is it so hard to get a diagnosis?
- Why God, if you are there, is it a constant battle to get anything done?
- Why God, if you re there, do I feel so alone in my grief?
Notice what they all have in common. Why God? If you are there… Today, I am going to explore that question with you.
The truth is God is always with us. In our most difficult times, even when we do not feel He is there, He is. The loving Father that He is, He watches over us much as a Good Shepherd does His flock.
Psalm 23:4King James Version (KJV)
Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.
We may not hear, see, or even feel Him at times. Know this though, dear brothers and sisters. HE IS THERE!!! God sees all. He knows all. He loves all. It is in Him we have hope, even life when we are overwhelmed with despair.
Job 28:24New International Version (NIV)
For he views the ends of the earth and sees everything under the heavens.
John 3:16King James Version (KJV)
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
George MacDonald illustrates the beauty of this relationship in the following way:
“Let not a man think and care ever so little about God he does not therefore exist without God. God is here with him, upholding, warming, delighting, teaching him — making life a good thing to him. God gives him Himself, though he knows it not.”
May God Bless You This Day…
