Sugar Coated Part II: Gettin’ Away With It
Psalm 10:6-13 King James Version (KJV)
6 He hath said in his heart, I shall not be moved: for I shall never be in adversity.7 His mouth is full of cursing and deceit and fraud: under his tongue is mischief and vanity. 8 He sitteth in lurking places of the villages: in the secret places doth he murder the innocent: his eyes are privily set against the poor. 9 He lieth in wait secretly as a lion in his den: he lieth in wait to catch the poor: he doth catch the poor, when he draweth him into his net. 10 He croucheth, and humbleth himself, that the poor may fall by his strong ones. 11 He hath said in his heart, God hath forgotten: he hideth his face; he will never see it. 12 Arise, O Lord; O God, lift up thine hand: forget not the humble. 13 Wherefore doth the wicked contemn God? he hath said in his heart, Thou wilt not require it.
Satan has a way of convincing us that we can get away with sin. In a way this lie makes me think of something along the lines of a bank heist. Only we are the less than elusive thief and God is no security system or guard. We can and do sin. God sees and knows each and every one. There is NO get out of jail free card.
Wishful Thinking & Bitter Reality
The deceiver causes us to believe many a misconception about truth. He poisons our minds with things we want to hear, see, or believe. So, Satan convinces us that:
- There will be no judgment for our sin
- We will not reap what we sow
- The choices that we make today will have no bearing or consequence
- We can play with fire and not get burned
However, given Satan’s nature, we can be sure of one thing. These are all lies! When we sin we:
- Desensitize our conscience
- Cripple our discipline
- Diminish our hunger for holiness
- Develop unbiblical views
In other words….
WE DEVELOP A TOLERANCE FOR SIN!!!
What Sin Really Is…
The devil wants nothing more than for us to think that sin is:
Whereas sin is actually:
THE WAYS OF SIN LEAD TO DEATH!
James 1:15 King James Version (KJV)
15 Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death.

3. Sin brings guilt.
Psalm 51:1-3 King James Version (KJV)
51 Have mercy upon me, O God, according to thy lovingkindness: according unto the multitude of thy tender mercies blot out my transgressions. 2 Wash me throughly from mine iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin. 3 For I acknowledge my transgressions: and my sin is ever before me.
4. Sin produces fear.

1 John 3:19-21King James Version (KJV)
19 And hereby we know that we are of the truth, and shall assure our hearts before him. 20 For if our heart condemn us, God is greater than our heart, and knoweth all things. 21 Beloved, if our heart condemn us not, then have we confidence toward God.
6. Sin opens the door to other sins.
Isaiah 30:1 King James Version (KJV)
30 Woe to the rebellious children, saith the Lord, that take counsel, but not of me; and that cover with a covering, but not of my spirit, that they may add sin to sin
7. Sin breaks our fellowship with God.
Isaiah 59:1-2 King James Version (KJV)
59 Behold, the Lord‘s hand is not shortened, that it cannot save; neither his ear heavy, that it cannot hear: 2 But your iniquities have separated between you and your God, and your sins have hid his face from you, that he will not hear.
8. Sin breaks God’s heart.
