As people, we feel. We laugh, we cry. We know disappointment, heartache, as well as joy.
This week has proven to be a bit of an emotional rollercoaster for the Burreson family. Between struggling with the complexity of my own emotions, juggling work and home, advocating for our oldest son, and dealing with some other unexpected hurdles its made for a busy week.
There has been more than one time, I wished I was like the father in the movie Click. I’ve wanted more than anything to hit the pause button and rewind or fast forward just to get through it or give myself a moment in which to breathe.
Have you had a Click moment this week?
I know I have, and I’m likely to do so again. That’s why I’m going to share with you some verses on emotions that I found more than a little reassuring.
God’s Word and Emotions
Proverbs 12:25 – Anxiety in a man’s heart weighs it down, But a good word makes it glad
Proverbs 15:13-15- A joyful heart makes a cheerful face, But when the heart is sad, the spirit is broken. The mind of the intelligent seeks knowledge, But the mouth of fools feeds on folly. All the days of the afflicted are bad, But a cheerful heart has a continual feast.
Proverbs 13:12- Hope deferred makes the heart sick, But desire fulfilled is a tree of life.
1 Peter 5:7 New International Version (NIV)- 7 Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.
Romans 12:10-21 New International Version (NIV) – 10 Be devoted to one another in love. Honor one another above yourselves. 11 Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervor, serving the Lord. 12 Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer. 13 Share with the Lord’s people who are in need. Practice hospitality. 14 Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse. 15 Rejoice with those who rejoice; mourn with those who mourn. 16 Live in harmony with one another. Do not be proud, but be willing to associate with people of low position.[a] Do not be conceited. 17 Do not repay anyone evil for evil. Be careful to do what is right in the eyes of everyone. 18 If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone. 19 Do not take revenge, my dear friends, but leave room for God’s wrath, for it is written: “It is mine to avenge; I will repay,”[b] says the Lord. 20 On the contrary: “If your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him something to drink. In doing this, you will heap burning coals on his head.”21 Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.
