Proverbs 16:24 King James Version (KJV)
24 Pleasant words are as an honeycomb, sweet to the soul, and health to the bones.
The holiday season while it can be a time of joy, is also a time for sadness and nostalgia for many. As the weather conditions change the season also becomes a time of illness both mental and physical. With so many out there missing loved ones and others, like myself, who struggle with depression sometimes the most rejuvenating and kindest gesture is compassion. That more often than not can come from a gentle word.
For me, that peace comes from God’s word. So this week, I share some passages with the hope that they’ll give those who are hurting, lonely, in mourning, or sick some comfort.
Isaiah 41:10 ESV (English Standard Version)
Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.
Revelations 21:1-4 NIV (New International Version)
Then I saw “a new heaven and a new earth,”[a] for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and there was no longer any sea. 2 I saw the Holy City, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride beautifully dressed for her husband. 3 And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Look! God’s dwelling place is now among the people, and he will dwell with them. They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God. 4 ‘He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death’[b] or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.
Ecclesiastes 3:1-8 King James Version (KJV)
To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven:2 A time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up that which is planted; 3 A time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to build up; 4 A time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance; 5 A time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones together; a time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing; 6 A time to get, and a time to lose; a time to keep, and a time to cast away; 7 A time to rend, and a time to sew; a time to keep silence, and a time to speak; 8 A time to love, and a time to hate; a time of war, and a time of peace.
Matthew 11:27-30 King James Version (KJV)
27 All things are delivered unto me of my Father: and no man knoweth the Son, but the Father; neither knoweth any man the Father, save the Son, and he to whomsoever the Son will reveal him. 28 Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.
And my own personal favorite and go to verse whenever I am sick, lonely, depressed, or afraid.
Psalm 23:4 King James Version (KJV)
4 Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.
For there is nothing more liberating than knowing that no matter what may come my way… God’s there. Even if I don’t see Him, He’s there. It is then that He carries me. Just like He will carry you.
